The Tour and Hosts:

I’ve been lucky to have a spot on this tour. I say that because of an amazing perspective I gained along the way. Before I talk about how impressed I became by the book, please help me appreciate that the author is donating all ebook sales to a charity!

What a dude.

Tim, I’m happy to award you the 1st ever “Humble Heros Of The SFF World” title of recognition, as proclaimed by me, Ollie, only a few words ago.  (Badge does not exist yet, but will!)

Samuel’s Charity is the name and it alone, is a good reason to add the ebook to your library,, but the book being so entertaining, over qualifies this as a “win-win” scenario. I’m getting to my review, promise. 🙌

Book Blurb:

When Gregory Hoffenbach unearths a valuable stone while ploughing, he believes it could put an end to all his woes.

It doesn’t. In fact it’s just the beginning.

Greg heads into the city of Calver with his brother Ralph to try and sell the stone but soon they discover that there are plenty of people in the Kingdom who’d like to own Greg’s red stone.

Over the next few days, the brothers strike a deal with a prominent crime boss, stumble into a plot to overthrow the King and have a hand in the death of an over-ambitious hay salesman.

Fortunately for them, they’ve got help. Some very useful and very violent help.

It seems everyone wants Greg’s stone and they’ll stop at nothing to get it.

Greg? He just wants a new plough.

A story about working out what’s valuable in life and then trying to take it from someone else

My Review Brew:

Thanks for staying with me while my review was percolating folks. Greed is a really fun adventure of two brothers, both farmers by inheritance, that go forth from the struggling family farm, straight into an unwanted trip full of bravery, hilarity, tomfoolery, mischevious brotherly moments, and heartachingly warm acts of desperation.  To post this before dinner, I will have to highlight what floats to the surface of my brain.

The author killed it, and being a first time author who started this “hopefully” multi-book series during quarantine, achieved a book, filled with intricately woven events, as well as more out loud laughs than I can count. It’s also got that “slice of life” easygoing style I love.

A stone that can be held in one hand, is a deeply red color, can break an animal pulled plough right down the middle, just by coming into contact with it, is the source of what follows. Oh, and it can do truly mesmerizing things to light that passes through it.

With a broken plough, no money, starvation a real possibility without a crop, the hope of traveling to the city center of this world’s goings on, to trade this bizarre stone for a new plough was the simple outcome one brother hopes for.

The other brother, after an emotional exchange, takes action during the night and sets off for the city alone, way over confident of his abilities to sell, and in denial of his tendency to mess things up.

By the time his brother finds him, the incredible path this stone will take them on, has been set in…..yes, stone.

Although the world building impressed me, and many times I imagined a map and how cool this world was, relationships, overcoming difficulties, and getting through no way out scenarios make this story. The cast of characters was in every instance, a bonanza of fun. To say I recommend this is an understatement!

Thank you for visiting me here at OllieSpot, or The Stone Cloud, I’m always humbled to have even one person read anything I write. Thank you Zooey and Zooloo’s Book Tours, the author, who sent a beautifully wrapped review copy, and who wrote a very memorable book, I appreciate you all.

Meet The Author:

Tim Beeden is someone who likes to make things up. Things like stories, ideas and friends. He’s lived a varied life, has had thirteen different jobs, likes piña coladas and getting caught in the rain. He loves to travel and is utterly convinced he’s part Viking (much to his wife’s continual annoyance. Although he was once on holiday in Denmark where the locals often spoke to him in Danish which pretty much confirmed it as far as he’s concerned).

He’s married with one child. His wife is nothing like him (thank goodness) but his son is (thank goodness). Greed is his first novel in a planned series of eleven books but he’s pretty new to this so isn’t aware of how ridiculous an ambition that is.He genuinely hopes you enjoy reading Greed and that if you love it you tell your friends. If you read it and hate it, he wants you to tell your enemies so they have to suffer too.
